About PPD Testing
1. How long does a PPD test take ?
The PPD test requires two visits:
- The first visit for test placement (takes about 10–15 minutes).
- The second visit 48–72 hours later for reading the result (about 5 minutes).
If a two-step PPD is needed, additional visits will be scheduled.
2. What happens if my PPD test is positive ?
A positive PPD test indicates possible TB exposure. It does not mean you have active TB disease. A chest X-ray will be done to check for active TB. If your X-ray is normal, you can usually proceed to work or school.
3. Is a two-step PPD always required ?
Two-step PPD testing is typically required for:
- Healthcare workers
- Long-term care employees
- Certain occupational or institutional settings
We will advise you if this applies to your situation.
4. Can I get a PPD test if I had the BCG vaccine ?
Yes. The BCG vaccine may affect PPD test results, but testing is still performed as part of TB screening requirements. Your healthcare provider will interpret your result based on your medical history.
5. Do I need a doctor’s referral for a PPD test ?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with our clinic for your PPD skin test.
